[I] It's a question of Modesty [message #22045] Mo, 25 April 2005 12:42

Last night I had a dream about Modesty Blaise.

.... no, not *that* kind of dream! Get your minds up to gutter level!

Probably induced by having read Modesty and then struggling with a
map,[1] I dreamed up a story where a member of the Network had
usurped many of her contacts to set up cells in an international
crime organisation -- i.e. essentially taking over the old Network --
by claiming that Modesty was terminally ill from cancer and that
Willie was also out of the game (no details remembered).

My problem is that I know next to nothing about Modesty Blaise. I've
read a sum total of four, perhaps five stories about her, all Cases
from the Modesty Blaise Files (numbers 48, 49, 50, and one or
possibly two unknowns). So I ask those more versed in the canon, has
anything remotely similar to this happened? I think the contacts in
South America and the Baltic States were prominently mentioned in the
dream, if that helps.

I thank you in advance for any answers, including but not limited to
those about kittens and chocolate.

No, as far as I know, when she ran the Network, she was in control all
of the time. They had run-ins with other criminals, mainly over
Narcotics trade, and once there was a traitor inside Network.

So this seems to be an "original" dream.

Does this mean I have to get my giant world conquering robots from
another supplier?

Then try to get hold of the books Peter O'Donnell wrote or the Titan
Books reprints of the series, they're well worth it! :-)

Not that I can recall.
